Become a Crown of Beauty Magazine Minion! - CLOSED

Posted by Livy at 12:47 PM 5 comments

THIS OPPROTUNITY FOR JOINING OUR JANUARY 2014 TRAINING IS NOW CLOSED.

HELP WANTED: Crown of Beauty Magazine has been growing in leaps and bounds.
As our ministry continues to expand, we're discovering that the workload is getting heavier...and it's time we call in the reinforcements! We truly need your help!

WHAT IS A MINION? Let's be frank. The word minion sounds pretty harsh. But unlike Gru in Despicable Me, I'm not a super villain seeking to take over the world with mindless servants.
Even though minions are cute, I'm not looking for little guys who look like burnt Twinkies. I'm looking for real girls, and women of all ages who have a passion to reach this generation with the life changing truth of Jesus Christ.

FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS:
We are living in a very dark and difficult time. Preteen and teenage girls, now more than ever, struggle with accepting and loving themselves in the midst of a culture that demands lofty ideals of perfection.

50% of girls between the ages of 11 and 13 see themselves as overweight.

Approximately 2 million adolescents in the United Sates attempt suicide.

These numbers are staggering, yet behind every statistic there is a story. Numbers cannot speak for souls, and here at Crown of Beauty, we know that every soul is so valuable.

We're committed to doing whatever we can do reach that one girl who needs advice, encouragement, truth and love from a big sister who truly cares.

Are you a "big sister" who longs to encourage those around her, love those who feel un-lovely, and impact this world in a powerful way?

It doesn't matter how old you are. Whether you're 12 or 50, we need you on our team!
We are so much stronger together. Just like Queen Esther, we truly believe that you have been called into God's Kingdom to make a difference for such a time as this.

LIVE OUT YOUR PASSION:

Everyone has a passion in life. What's yours? If you love to write, encourage, speak , Tweet, lead Bible Studies, run a website, a blog about fashion, or work for a real magazine, then you are our girl!

Maybe you even dream about launching your very own magazine, blog, website or girls ministry! If so, we would love to train you, give you hands on experience, and teach you everything we know, in hopes that you'll be successful in all your future projects!

Maybe you're already an established blogger, author, or YouTuber who desires to branch out and volunteer their time and talents at Crown of Beauty.

We would love to have you here!

The great thing about teaming up with Crown of Beauty, is that everything is done online. The only thing you need is an internet connection, and a desire to learn!

JOIN THE CROWN OF BEAUTY TEAM ~ JANUARY 2014:

This free training time covers Biblical teachings about our mission statement, creative article writing tips, lessons on how to use social media tools to reach your audience, connecting with people in your unique niche, conducting interviews, advertising, and basic "Getting Started" skills like block or blog building.
After completing this class, you'll have a better understanding of what Crown of Beauty is all about.
If you enjoy the class, and want to dive into being involved with creating and running our mag, we will then place you as a COB team member where we think you fit best on our magazine staff!

(Please note, staff members do not have a regular salary, they only get paid on commission from direct magazine sales or advertisement sales.)

We will be training Crown of Beauty team members in sets of two. Space is limited, so be sure to apply early! We will be choosing 2 to 6 applicants.

LEARN THE ROPES NOW, TO JOIN US FOR FUTURE PROJECTS LATER:

We really want you to be part of all the exciting things happening at Crown of Beauty.
We have lots of future events, magazine issues, and even web & magazine launches coming up on the horizons.

If you've ever had an interest in event planning, article writing, having your own column in a magazine, running a fashion website, interviewing your favorite artists and authors, or simply encouraging your sisters in Christ  now is the time to partner with Crown of Beauty!

Who knows, you might just be our next web-designer, fashion columnist, editor, vice president and manager, promo manager, social media guru or party planner!

God has given you gifting's, talents, and desires, and it's your job to steward what has been entrusted to you. It doesn't matter how experienced or inexperienced you are. We promise to treat you with TLC and nurture the plant of desire that's inside of you. Our online learning environment is positive, encouraging, and pressure-free.

We hope you'll consider going to "school" with us, and maybe even joining our team at COB!
If you have a desire to launch a new website or blog, this might be just the push you need to get started. We would also love to partner with you on your launches...because we have a few ideas up our sleeves! Hanging out on the backburner of our to-do list is a "little sister" website and magazine, as well as a more secular, trendy, music and fashion oriented site as well. Could it be that these ideas have been on your heart as well?

We're excited about someday launching a "little sister" website & magazine!
Maybe you'll be the chief editor! :)

We want to reach this lost world for Christ in a trendy, upbeat way, relating with non-Christians by creating a website/blog just for them.

Paige Omartian: A Real Life Cinderella Story

Posted by Livy at 12:03 PM 0 comments

My finger tapped the doorbell, and we waited a few moments in silence. The door opened to Paige Omartian's beautiful home, which is nestled in a trendy Nashville suburb. I already knew chapters and lines from Paige's life story. I was looking forward to taking the hodgepodge of bits and pieces of information, and craft them into something beautiful for our readers. As creator of Crown of Beauty Magazine, I felt honored to spend an afternoon with someone I viewed as an inspiration for so many girls. I couldn't wait to meet Paige.

Right on time, Paige came floating down the staircase. Her petite frame and blonde locks reminded me of a Disney Princess. I smiled at Paige. She was living her dreams. Just like Cinderella, she had reached a Happily Ever After, and fiery trials proved her faith to be as priceless gold.

Paige was small, but there was nothing small about her spirit, mission, and desire to change this world. I couldn't wait to sit down and talk with her about her Cinderella story.

I use the example of Cinderella, because the name means “girl by the cinders.”

As we talked, Paige openly shared her heart. She knows what it's like to sit hopelessly by the fire of trial and pain, flames ebbing away at your very life. She knows what it's like to endure a nightmare, then suddenly find yourself transplanted into a daydream. Paige's pumpkin turned into a horse drawn carriage, as God used the very thing the enemy meant for evil, to carry her to the fairytale ball.
After spending an uplifting afternoon with this princess, I felt wealthy and blessed to have the honor of hearing golden words from the treasure chest of her heart.

You can do the same when you read Wake Up Generation Paige's first lines captured my imagination and tossed me back into earlier, carefree days. I could see the regal red drapes, hanging on either side of the wooden stage. As soon as Paige mentioned the word “theater,” memories arose. Probably because I had spent many hours in a familiar setting, it was easy for me to imagine myself as Paige.

Paige's 11-year-old self became instantly relatable. But then her loveable life took a dramatic turn for the worst. Dark words like cancer, needles and sterile hospital air, choked me as I read. Lost in her easy-to-read, first-hand account, I shuddered at the dread of losing my hair, my friends, my freedom and my hope. I closed her book and gulped for air. Sometimes my imagination gets the best of me...I didn't want to imagine myself as a bald prisoner to death any longer.

Thankfully, I knew that Paige's story had a happy ending, so I continued. My favorite part was the climax. Everything appeared hopeless as death inched too close for comfort. Paige was wheeled into surgery. The comforting scripture verses that had been memorized, spoken, and prayed over Paige, suddenly came alive. The Word became flesh. Jesus Himself carried Paige with an out-of-this-world, radical, soul-soothing peace that cannot be explained by man. The hero rushed in...not to remove her from the tubes and IV’s, but to carry her.

Paige's journey to recovery was still long and most definitely uphill. But now she knew who held her with strong arms and laughed every time she played pranks on the nursing staff. God led her all the way out of the hospital ward, into the school hallways, and onto the world stage.

All along, God had a plan for his chosen Cinderella. He transformed the ashes into roses, and her most fragile tears into diamonds. During our interview, I asked Paige who her favorite Disney Princess was, and why.

Her answer?

Cinderella. Paige loved the justification of Cinderella's story. She was encouraged by how God took something terrible, and worked it out for good in Cinderella's life. The Lord desires to do the same with each of us, for all His Cinderella's who are sitting by the ashes.

As heartwarming and inspirational as Paige's story is, she would never want this to be about her. In Wake Up Generation, she makes it clear that we each have a story. Her words are loaded with a strong sense of urgency that gallops off the pages. She warns us that life is short, boredom is deadly, and dreams were planted inside us so they could be fulfilled. Not ignored.

If Paige is a Princess, she is a Princess in combat boots. This Cinderella spent too much time on her death bed to sit around and watch people waste their lives. She cannot keep quiet about it. She may have reached a “Happily Ever After” in some areas of her life, but her mission is not complete.

What is the purpose of being a Princess and Queen in the Kingdom of God?

It is to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth, and set our fellow citizens free from captivity.

If Paige is Cinderella, she is troubled by all the Sleeping Beauties. As her generation is sung to slumber by a drudge song called “apathy,” Paige grabs her blow horn and echoes God's message, “Wake up!”
It's time for us to arise and use the gifts we've been given. She's rallying her fellow princesses to quit comparing ourselves with others, and use our weapons of unique individuality. Paige wants us to know that we've each been given a vital role to play.

In Wake Up Generation, she tells us other stories. Stories of human trafficking, gang life, poverty, child soldiers, lies about beauty, the persecuted church, and kids with cancer. She dares us not to close our eyes to the ugly face of pain and suffering, but rather make ourselves available to the Lord, so He can use us to change our little corner of the world.

Paige makes it clear: Dreams were given to us not so we can cower in fear, but so we can change this world. Thankfully, she doesn't leave us hanging. Practicing what she preaches in Wake Up Generation, she guides us along with practical application and real life ideas.

Your fairytale dreams were not meant to be lived out by someone else. Sister, they were created for YOU. Wouldn't you like to see your story unfold? Ask the Lord to perfect His work in you, purify the areas that need to be burned away, and redeem things that have been consumed by fire in your life. He can bring life to the most desolate places of your soul. God desires to heal, awaken, illuminate, and ignite your heart.

Hand the pen of control over your life to the Master Author, and be amazed as he writes your very own Cinderella story.

Welcome to Nashville

Posted by Livy at 11:53 AM 0 comments

Nashville is a magical word. It's the place where midnight dreams become a daytime reality. Stars in this city shine as brightly as neon green lights. The streets downtown are lined with musicians picking guitars like wannabe superstars. They all hope to make it big, to someday tell the tale of their own Taylor Swift success story.

Nashville is the heartbeat of country music. It's the melting pot for musicians, artists, writers and future superstars. All the impressive-looking record labels line the streets. Special tourist opportunities allow you to tread where legends have walked. Around here, girls like to wear summer dresses and sparkly cowgirl boots.

Not only does Nashville put the kick in country music, this town is also the home base for Christian music.

I've been blessed to spend some time here in this sparkly city. I'm lodging with my Tennessee family on the outskirts of town. Out here, girls don't wear cowgirl boots to impress the boys. They wear boots because the ground is muddy and the goat needs to be milked! Staying at my Aunt and Uncle's farm has given me a wonderful opportunity to soak in the beautiful countryside, and breathe in the luscious green trees. Spring is in full bloom and baby Suade (the playful goat) is getting stronger everyday as he gobbles up all the greenery.

While I'm here in Nashville, Crown of Beauty Magazine is on a mission. We're working hard to capture some of the magic that happens in the Christian music industry, bringing you girls a handful of pixie dust to experience for yourselves! We're interviewing your favorite Christian music artists! We want YOU to see what happens behind the scenes and experience more than just the stories behind your favorite songs. We want you to be inspired and feel like you've just spent a few minutes chatting it up with your favorite band members. I wish that I could carry you girls in my suitcase and bring you along for all my adventures. Instead, I have a talented video guy following me around to capture these snapshots of life in Nashville!

Generation Girl Power

Yesterday, I was so blessed to spend a few hours at the home of someone who has inspired me greatly in life. Tricia Brock. Also known as the lead singer of Superchic[K], who puts the karate kick behind the words “girl power.”

When I was ten years old, I unwrapped the plastic from my first Superchic[K] C.D. I listened to" One Girl Revolution" one too many times. I ran around the house, pretending I was a secret agent spy, bounding around the corners, ready to pounce on the invisible bad guy. As I grew older and continued listening to Superchic[K]'s rock anthem theme song, “One Girl Revolution,” I became fully convinced...I was a force to be reckoned with. I would make waves in this world. No one would know what hit them.

Superchic[K] encouraged me through my preteen and teenage years. I cried along with “Beauty From Pain,” sang “Bowling Ball” at the top of my lungs when I wanted to pretend I didn't have a crush, and covered my ears in "Alright" when I just wanted to know that everything was going to be okay.

Superchic[K] was my first concert, first favorite C.D., first inspiration to question the cultural norm, and my first video interview!

Tricia and her husband live in a cute little house in the suburbs. Nick (Tricia's husband) was waiting for us on the front porch with one of their two dogs, who was eating up a deflated, worn out old ball. Nick welcomed us as if we were neighbors who came for an afternoon chat over ice tea. I felt all pre-interview jitters slip away in the warm wind before we stepped inside.
Indoors, the living room floor was decorated with toys, proof that a baby lives with them. Sweet Ava was napping, so we quietly weighed our video options and chose where to set up.

The back porch was a beautiful possibility, but we decided to go upstairs to their studio, because of possible wind noise in the mics, or friendly neighbors who might decide to mow their lawn on such a pretty afternoon.

As we set up the room, Nick asked if we wanted to hear some of Tricia's new music (including her single, “Enough,” which drops this Friday!)

My answer? PTSH. Yes! Of course!

Tricia was at a meeting and interview with her label, so we had an hour to continue setting up. We chatted, moved around furniture, and listened to a small sampling of Tricia's latest project.

Superchic[K] fans...be warned, Tricia is back and she's rocking it! If you love her new stuff as much as I do, then we will have no problem getting her album to the top of the charts.

Tricia arrived right on time, and entered the studio loft wearing an outfit that was totally her. The vibe was bold and trendy, glowing with a confidence that shown from her eyes. She got hooked up to her mic, and our camera man did some audio level adjusting, as Tricia and I chatted for a few minutes.

Then, it was time. The cameras were rolling, and they were ready for us to do our thing. I glanced nervously at my index cards and for a split second felt awkward in front of the cameras. Then I remembered how I've never been camera shy! Why would I be nervous now? I grinned, feeling the new confidence rising up within, so thankful for this opportunity, and asked my first question.

Tricia was a natural. She told funny stories, shared her heart with us girls, and once again...left an impact on my life. I had so much fun hearing about her love story with Nick, and admired her passion as she talked about a girl who was bullied at her High School. Tricia talked about how she stood up for her. In High School, Tricia was scared to speak up, but she couldn't NOT say anything about it. Her heart broke at the injustice, and love poured out in a fierce defense of the innocent. Her passion was greater than her fear.

Psalm 82:3-4 says;
"Defend the cause of the weak and the fatherless, maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked."

I hope Tricia's story will move your heart as much as it did mine. If you see injustice, bullying, or unfair treatment happening in your school, church or anywhere...don't be afraid to stand up against it. Like Tricia, you might feel afraid...but say something anyway! You just might safe a life.

Thanks for joining me on my journey so far. There are many more adventures to come as we continue to interview some of your favorite artists! Don't forget to check out Tricia's new single, “Enough,” which will be released this Friday!

Also, be sure to sign up for our opt-in e-mail list, so you can be the first to know when Trisha's FULL video interview is live on our site! You can do so on our homepage: www.crownofbeautymagazine.com

Love from your sister in Christ,
